HOT: Shalane Flanagan Finishes Second in NYC Marathon

Usually long-distance runners start slow and chip away at their race times over the years. Not Shalane Flanagan. The first-time marathoner placed second with an incredible time of 2:28:40 in the New York City Marathon over the weekend, the first American woman to do so in 20 years. “Even though I didn’t win, I feel like a champion,” said Flanagan. “I conquered a big goal and a dream of mine. I’ve been replaying the race in my head all night long.” In a news conference after the race, the brave blonde hinted that she might compete in the US marathon trials for the 2012 London Olympics. We’ll be pulling for you, Shalane (and maybe even inspired to pick up our own pace)!
