HOT: Whitney Cummings Scores Two TV Hits
It’s the time of year that many a new TV series dreads: that time when network head honchos decide who gets cut and who will get picked up for the rest of the season. While lots of series got the axe this month (R.I.P. Charlie’s Angels and The Playboy Club), break-out comedian/actress Whitney Cummings, star and creator of NBC’s Whitney and creator of CBS’s 2 Broke Girls, nabbed not one, but two renewals for the 2011-2012 season. According to many critics, it’s the “season of the It-girl:” Zooey Deschanel scored a renewal for her comedy The New Girl, and several new estrogen-dominated series are set to premiere in the months to come. But no matter how many female-centric shows are hitting the mainstream, it’s clear that Whitney is the leader of the pack. With comedic acting and writing chops to boot, Ms. Cummings is setting the bar higher for Hollywood’s newest generation of funny girls.
