We’ve all faced a desk covered in paperwork and crumbs from yesterday’s
afternoon snack. Couple that with the electronic gadgets, tangles of
cords, and personal knickknacks we’ve accumulated, and you’re likely
sitting at a desk that’s a challenge to work at.
“There is so
much more on our desks than there once was. Today we have computers,
keyboards, a mouse, plus printers and wireless routers, not to mention
smaller tech gear like cell phones, blackberries, iPods, and chargers,”
says Neil Wertheimer, organizational expert and editor in chief of Fresh Home
magazine. “But we haven’t removed anything, either. We still have
staplers, in- and out-boxes, lamps, clocks, tissue boxes, penholders,
and photos. Add in a coffee mug, the day’s mail, and a stack of work
papers, and you have a cacophony of stuff.”
Some women can work
atop such a cluttered mess and still be productive. But for those who
can’t, a disorganized desk breeds inefficiency, frustration, and a
disorganized mind. Fortunately, with a few organizational tips you can
make your desk a place you’d actually want to work. Here’s how.
